原来是“民子三部曲”的最后一部，以时间线索排列，应为：《故乡》《家族》《远山的呼唤》。依时间顺序可以横向比较。但本片在气质结构上与《幸福的黄手帕》有异曲同工之妙，可纵向剖析。大气磅礴的庶民情节剧，每一帧都流露着天然的美感：五湖四海，人情冷暖，四季轮回，世间百态，皆一气呵成。
